Scale invariance in x-ray flares of gamma-ray bursts

چکیده

X-ray flares are generally believed to be produced by the reactivation of central engine, and may have same energy dissipation mechanism as prompt emission gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). can therefore provide important clues understanding nature engines GRBs. In this work, we study for first time physical connection between differential size return distributions GRBs with known redshifts. We find that duration, energy, waiting well fitted a power-law function. particular, differences durations, energies, times at different (i.e., distributions) follow $q$-Gaussian form. The $q$ values in remain nearly steady temporal interval scales, implying scale-invariant structure GRB flares. Moreover, verify parameters related indices $\alpha$ distributions, characterized $q=(\alpha+2)/\alpha$. These statistical features explained within framework self-organizing criticality system.

X - Ray Flares of Gamma - Ray Bursts : Quakes of Solid

We propose a star-quake model to understand X-ray flares of both long and short Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) in a solid quark star regime. Two kinds of central engines for GRBs are available if pulsar-like stars are actually (solid) quark stars, i.e., the SNE-type GRBs and the SGR-type GRBs. It is found that a quark star could be solidified about 10 to 10 s later after its birth if the critical temp...

Observations of X-ray Flares from Gamma Ray Bursts

Swift-XRT observations of the X-ray emission from gamma ray bursts (GRBs) and during the GRB afterglow have led to many new results during the past two years. One of these exciting results is that ∼1/3− 1/2 of GRBs contain detectable X-ray flares. The mean fluence of the X-ray flares is ∼10× less than that of the initial prompt emission, but in some cases the flare is as energetic as the prompt...

GeV-TeV and X-ray flares from gamma-ray bursts

The recent detection of delayed X-ray flares during the afterglow phase of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) suggests an inner-engine origin, at radii inside the deceleration radius characterizing the beginning of the forward shock afterglow emission. Given the observed temporal overlapping between the flares and afterglows, there must be inverse Compton (IC) emission arising from such flare photons scat...

Flares in Gamma Ray Bursts

The flare activity that is observed in GRBs soon after the prompt emission with the XRT (0.3-10 KeV) instrument on board of the Swift satellite is leading to important clues in relation to the physical characteristics of the mechanism generating the emission of energy in Gamma Ray Bursts. We will briefly refer to the results obtained with the recent analysis [1] and [2] and discuss the prelimin...

Linearly Polarized X-ray Flares following Short Gamma-ray Bursts

Soft X-ray flares were detected to follow the short-duration gamma-ray burst GRB 050724. The temporal properties of the flares suggest that they are likely due to the late time activity of the central engine. We argue that if short GRBs are generated through compact star mergers, as is supported by the recent observations, the jet powering the late X-ray flares must be launched via magnetic pro...
